The national junior squash players including Nicholas Caddle and Nku Patrick showed some top form in singles action on the opening day of the Junior Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Championships in Bermuda, on Sunday.
The T&T contingent won seven of its eleven matches on the opening day. In the first round of the boys Under-15 singles category, Caddle eased his way to a straight set victory over Cameron Coffey of Bermuda 11-4, 11-0, 11-2. Patrick was also a straight set winner in round one of the boys Under-19 singles, defeating hometown boy Beckett Simmons 11-0, 11-7, 11-2. Chad Salandy (boys Under-17) was the other T&T male representative to win.
Among the T&T girls, Jaime-Leigh Edgehill (girls Under-17), Faith Gillezeau (girls Under-17), Jinan Al Rawi (girls Under-13) and Aimee De Verteuil (girls Under-13) all won their first round matches.
On the losing end for T&T were Christopher Anthony (boys Under-13), Kobie Khan (boys Under-15), Jonathan Blanc (boys Under-17) and Christian Edgehill (boys Under-19). Edgehill suffered a heartbreaking defeat to Daniel Murphy of the Cayman Islands. After winning the first two sets 11-7, 11-7, Edgehill lost the last three sets 13-15, 10-12 and 11-13.
Yesterday Alexandria Yearwood (girls Under-15), Marie-Claire Barcant (girls Under-15) and Charlotte Knaggs (girls Under-19) were in action for T&T.
