We are all aware that education defeats ignorance and the gateway to achieve that advantage is through solid primary school teaching. It is being published that the East Dry River community is tainted with crime and the term hotspot is used to refer to that area called “Behind the bridge.” The present executive has seen it fit to stop this crime scourge by introducing more joint police and army patrols, and the latest is to unleash the dogs of war on the community, with a limited community police policy.
All this obviously is short term. What is needed is a long-term plan for these communities, and that is a programme that can give a solid primary school education. This was most present in the past and is sadly lacking today. Years ago there were established and successful primary schools which produced solid citizens who have made great contributions to T&T.
I am now calling on and begging the present administration, their parliamentary representatives and the various NGOs, to do something to assist in bringing the primary school in the East Dry River back to the high standard it once held. It is an established fact that this direction can assist in limiting some of the social ills in the communities and produced proud citizens once more. May God bless our nation.
