T&T Police Youth Club Under-21 netball team walked away champion while the U-16 team finished runners-up in the ninth annual junior Florida Netball Classic Tournament held from March 31-April 1 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA.
Both teams endured a gruelling round-robin tournament of 11 matches against teams from the Cayman Islands, Jamaica and Florida in their respective categories.
The U-21s captured a trophy and gold medals for each player after placing first in the category while the U-16s performed commendably and placed second to take home silver medals.
The team also received the first place trophy for best uniformed outfit on parade of all the participating teams in the tournament.
Of the 32 PYC members who represented T&T at the tournament, 14 were from the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) PYC netball team with the other 18 being from the Tamana PYC netball team.
Accompanying the teams were Acting Corporal Anthony Osouna, who serves as Team leader and manager, WPC Sonia Robinson as coach and PC Maurice Edwards, assistant coach and assistant leader of the IATF Youth Club.
Acting Commisioner of Police Stephen Williams commended the team on their winning performance at the international event, adding that it is a testimony of the talent and resident in the Police Youth Clubs and the opportunities that are afforded to members.
