Allrounder Brendon De La Rosa was crowned Cricketer-of-the-Year when the North East Zonal Council of the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB) staged their 2015 prize distribution function at the Guaico Secondary School, Turure, on Saturday evening.

De La Rosa who captains Dreadnought in the eight-club Senior Division slammed the most runs (566) runs and grabbed the most wickets (29) in the season to claim the top honours.

He was also among the Top Five Cricketers of the Year which included Daniel Robinson, and Anderson Richardson, both of Juniors; Gerard Singh of Youth Sports, and Wendell Alleyne of Youth Sports. De La Rosa also scored two centuries (142, 119), the same number as Lavon Montgomery (135, 118) of Montgomery Sports Club.

Winners of the Senior Divison were Dreadnought who have been promoted to the East/North East Championship Division; while Guaico/Tamana were second, and Youth Sports placed third.

And the highest score of the season in the North East Zone was made by Keston Ross (160) of Valencia Sixers.

The gala function was overshadowed by the death, one day earlier of TTCB member Pirtie Roopnarinesingh, whose club Valiants, of the South Championship Division comprised numerous players from the North East Zone, and for whom one minute's silence was observed.

Among those who attended the function were president of the TTCB Azim Bassarath, who delivered the feature address;  and fellow executive members Patrick Rampersad (third vice-president), Lalman Kowlessar (second vice-president), Sukesh Maniam (treasurer) and Manohar Ramsaran; Tarandath Sammy, chairman of the East Zone and TTCB executive member; Parasram Singh and David Hunte, president and vice-presidents respectively of the Umpires and Scorers Association.
