Let’s make our families stronger

“We have to realise though that we can only be really present for our young when we are okay ourselves: physically, emotionally, and spiritually.” Everyone in T&T, the region and I daresay in every corner of today’s world is concerned about the levels of violence in our homes and communities. At times, we can feel helpless and even hopeless. But, I will not stop being optimistic and I will continue to believe that there is a great deal that each one of us can do. Let’s fight crime by building and strengthening family life.

I am particularly encouraged and motivated to “make things” better when I consider the children and young people who surround us. We cannot afford to give up altogether. We can feel like giving up for a few minutes, maybe a few hours or even a few days but then we must find the strength to pick ourselves up and go on. In order to cope, we should also practise not to always be focused on all the “bad” things that are happening all the time.
