Hairstylist Sherma Sandy did a little kicking off on her own on June 12, the day that the World Cup 2014 officially started in Brazil, miles away from her TriBeca Salon and Spa at One Woodbrook Place. Sandy, who for years owned Hair by Sherma, launched TriBeca Salon and Spa in the presence of family, friends and mainly clients.
Familiar faces like former government minister Wendell Mottley and his wife Vicki Assevero-Mottley, veteran designer Meiling, former Miss Universe representative Danielle Jones-Hunte were among the guests.
Some guests sat inside sipping on red and white wine and nibbling on hors d'oeuvres as they soaked up the ambiance of the modern-looking salon with its lit vanilla-scented candles, chandeliers, naked concrete floors, overhead dryers, chain link curtains and waterfall wall. Others chose to mingle outdoors and sample products from Macadamia and Wet Brush representatives. Sandy, opened the doors of TriBeca six weeks ago but felt the launch was important.
Originally from South Trinidad, she pursued cosmetology at the Hair We Are Institute of Beauty in San Fernando. Sandy worked at salons in T&T and Bermuda before opening Hair by Sherma two and a half years ago. The name TriBeca, she said, comes from the neighbourhood in Lower Manhattan, New York City that bears the same name.
Sandy’s vision for TriBeca is that it becomes the place where people of any ethnicity come to look and feel good in a comfortable environment where security is paramount and where they don’t have to stress over parking. “I want this to be a one stop beauty shop in a great location where clients can get their hair done, their mani and pedi, waxes and makeup.”
The seven beauty professionals who work out of TriBeca have all provided a service to Sandy at one time or another over the years, so she is well familiar with their high quality of work. TriBeca also retails beauty products and has a blow dry bar on Thursdays and Fridays and specials for brides.
