T&T’s Tevin Joseph and Tarandath Deonath ended the Second FIVB Under-23 World Beach Volleyball Championship without a win and a 0–5 record after forfeiting their last match against Kazakhstan’s Vladislav Pustynnikov and Sergey Bogatu in Pool B at Summer Sports Resort, Myslowice, Poland, yesterday. Following their 0–2 start on Wednesday’s opening day of competition, Joseph and Deonath were humbled by Puerto Ricans Kevin Rodriguez and Cristian Encarnacion 5–21, 13–21 and then went under to Ukraine’s Andriy Kravets and Denys Denysenko 14–21, 20–22 ahead of their final round-robin match today.
When the tournament served off on Wednesday, Joseph and Deonath were beaten by Brazilians Saymon Barbosa Santos and Marcus Encarnacion 7–21, 6–21 and were also swept aside by Austrians Lorenz Petutschnig and Tobias Winter. At the end of the round-robin series, the top four teams in the group will advance to the main draw single elimination with the top four teams from the five other groups until the finals tomorrow. This is the second such outing for Deonath at a World Championship event after he partnered Brandon Legall at the U-21 Championships in Croatia last year.
