The family of a man  whose body was found in a carat shed in Penal on Sunday morning are hoping the autopsy today will shed some light on what happened to him. Clyde Garib’s brother, Elijah Garib, spoke to the T&T Guardian yesterday after identifying his brother’s body at the San Fernando mortuary. He said the last time he saw his brother was on Saturday when he left their home at Monkey Town, Lower Barrackpore.

“He left home on Saturday morning, he didn’t say where he was going or anything,” said Garib. “Although he separated from his wife a month ago, he did not seem depressed.” Garib said his 43-year-old brother, the father of three, was a quiet man and was focusing on moving forward in his life as he had recently started a new job as a labourer at the San Fernando General Hospital. “He came home after his first day and told me the job was easy and nice.”

He said the family began calling his brother’s friends and relatives when he did not return home on Saturday night.  But his search for his only brother came to a traumatic end when a cousin called him and told him about the body found in Penal Rock Road, Penal. “My cousin called me, and told me call the station and see if it’s Clyde,” said Garib. He said when the police described the person to him, he immediately knew it was his brother.

“What I don’t understand is what he was doing there. I was trying to hide it from our mother but she still found out,” he added. Garib said his mother was very ill and was not taking the news well. He said his brother’s children were 15, nine and four. The 15-year-old boy lived with his father. “Everyone is in shock right now. We are just trying to cope right now,” he added.
