Corporate T&T told:

The corporate community needs to pay more attention to research since findings can lead to better decision-making.

That was the call made by Acolla Cameron, Head of the Management Studies Department, at UWI, which hosted its second Research Week.

Cameron said decisions should be based on data and actual research conducted by academics or non-academics to assist in making informed decisions.

“We are hoping that at the university, the research we do in various disciplines like marketing, HR, finance, can be used to develop techniques on how to strategise, to develop policy and make informed decisions.”

She said there have been “willing” partners which have sponsored research activities and the onus is on the UWI to reach out to more members of the corporate community.

“We are constantly looking for new partners because we want to engage industry so they see the value of research and they can see the link between our research and how it can help them make better informed decisions,” she said.

Marsha Caballero, VP of Corporate Communications at TSTT, said Research Week workshops help students gain a greater appreciation of the kind of teamwork and research required to make a sustainable and positive impact on businesses.

“Hearing the key insights from industry leaders in finance, government, HR and marketing will also boost the student’s entrepreneurial drive.

“Bmobile fully supports this initiative to ensure students are better equipped to transform the local business landscape,” she said.
